WELCOME TO LONGEST RUNNING JUNIOR ART SHOW IN PUGET SOUND
MIVAL’s Junior Art Show is in its 46th year and continuing to evolve. This year is no exception as our community, the nation and world battle Covid-19 and the real need to stay apart to stay together.
Once part of Mercer Island’s yearly Summer Celebration, the MIVAL Junior Art Show has long been hosted by our generous community partner Wells Fargo Bank. Wells Fargo provides their lobby space, award funding and a great amount of flexibility, patience and good humor for what was first a weekend event and now a month long or more exhibition of our children’s immense artistic talent.
In 2019, we expanded the MIVAL Junior Art Show exhibition locations adding to the month at Wells Fargo an additional month at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center and the Mercer Island Library. These two new community partners and the expanded exhibition dates allow our now traveling show to be viewed by a much greater number of people.
In 2020, we again planned to host the MIVAL Junior Art Show in two or three locations. Our Wells Fargo installation was set to go as usual and, at the MICEC, we would be hosted in the main floor gallery space.
When Covid-19 hit, access to our physical spaces was canceled and we were forced to consider an online hosted show or postpone for a year. Fortunately, our volunteers were up to the task. With the support of MIVAL, our partners, Wells Fargo, the City of Mercer Island, and the Mercer Island Arts Council, and our sponsors, CB Bain, Cascade Frame, Terra Bella and Mercer Island Florists, this is our online show.
We are proud of our youth and their hard work in pursuit of art. As we navigate these challenging times, we hope we all can find more opportunities to come together in new ways and celebrate art and culture. If you know one of these young artists, reach out to them and congratulate them on a beautiful show. Thank you for your support.
